Thank You, Friends of the Verde

The VVPOA received a grant from the Friends of the Verde to remove invasive plants along the river bank in the Nature Preserve.  The Giant Reed or Arundo is a plant that originated in the Mediterranean and was brought to the U.S. to control erosion along canals.  It quickly spread and has become a problem for all the rivers in the southwest.  Several spots along the river have become almost totally blocked by its growth.  The Verde Earth Tech company specializes in removal and is a certified user of the herbicide needed to treat it when cut.  This can only be done during the winter months.  This will be a slow process but thanks to grant funds, we will continue to promote a healthy river for our community
